The knit lit book

June 25, 2010
There's a few novel style books on knitting.  I would not have even guessed that a while ago.  McPhee, author's last name, writes in a journal like style.  The book knit lit is a triology of knitting novels including Knit the Season a Christmas themed plot.  So, recently I was at a knitting circle.  I had so much fun.  The last circle I went to was at least five years ago.  This one included LeAnn, Anna May, and Jane as well as the owner of The Knittery -- Kim.  The group seems to informally meet on Tuesday's as a drop in.  Also, Linda showed at 2pm.  The event coincided with a 5.0 richeter scale earthquake that lasted 30 seconds.

Project details:   Success -- getting practice yarn worked.  Now I've moved forward to a Debbie Bliss project using Casmerino baby yarn in dusty rose pink.  The Alpabet blanket is one colour but a complex chart.  There is some frustration involved because I have gotten as far as row eleven and re-started 4 times.  Lol, that's why I like knitting.  No one hovers over my shoulder when I work on a project.  Of course, to facilitate the completion and quality I look for help, ask questions, and read the pattern ifrst making sure to take notes in my knitting journal.  This chart is a 10 x 10 stitch grid (100 stitches per square) and it's 237 rows and 187 stitches across.  Ya, biggest project so far!

Knitting is malleable

May 6, 2010

Knitting is a malleable hobby.  I like that I can finish a project and with discerment return at a later date to make corrections.  Of course it depends on the amount of effort I put in the project to begin with.  Just rushing through will guarantee that I will need to fix errors.  If I concentrate the first time then the mistakes are usually reflectively smaller.

I knitted a creative toque and scarf that I photographed.  The picture gave me some objectivity that I didn't have at first.  The...

Cashmerino Yarn by Debbie Bliss

March 17, 2010
At the local Whitby yarn shop on Brock St. N. called the Kintterary (truly an organized and friendly shop) is where I got the material for the current project.  A mauve purple yarn by Debbie Bliss and a Grey Wool by Cascades,  The project is just a tuque but that's not the point.  The objective is to learn and practice with a very high quality yarn and to eventually work on a more complex pattern.  The owner Kim already gave me her insight and reading about the technique of Fair Isle will fix...

More on the finished project

January 29, 2010
The turtleneck is proportionate. There is some of the yarn remaining.  The sweater has no sleeves.  There are some skeins left for another project.

I have been asked by the therapy program to which I belong to be a part of a knitting group and I was happy to volunteer that I could lead this yet to be formed group.  To supply this I would use the 5 or so multiples of the same size needle that accumulated from the combined years of heirloom knitting.  Also, the yarn that I have remaining from a...
